If you have a current FOID card, you are in luck and have no issues. Please move along to the next article. If you are still waiting for a FOID card, or even a CCL and live in Illinois, worry not, the republicans now have your back.
The Republicans are trying to introduce legislation that will speed up the process of obtaining both a FOID or CCL card. Right now, the delays average 121 days for a FOID card and 145 days for a CCL. In the defense of the Illinois State Patrol, their applications are up 167% this year.
The law currently states that the ISP has 30 days to approve or deny an application for a FOID card. See above for the reality. We can talk all day long about what the law says and how it’s not working.
The real solution would be to VOID the FOID. Stop the nonsense. While the State of Illinois loves taxes and fees, this is really the only solution to be completely compliant with the constitutional rights of every American. Budget cuts and the inability to hire enough employees to process the FOID applications and renewals have caused an unintended constitutional crisis.
I just want to say this to the Republicans, do yourself a favor, JUST VOID THE FOID!
